NingXia & Elderberry Cremosa
NingXia & Elderberry Cremosa

This is officially my new favorite use for Elderberry Syrup!

If you've never heard of a Cremosa, think of it as an Italian Soda with cream added. I remember going to an Italian restaurant as a child and ordering them. It was so good and probably full of refined sugar, food coloring and who-knows-what-else.

This is guilt-free and boosts our wellness all while tasting amazing! All those vitality oils in my elderberry syrup recipe give it serious flavor!

ELDERBERRY & NINGXIA CREMOSA

  • 6oz Sparkling Water (Alta Palla Wild Berry works great for this)

  • 2oz NingXia Red

  • 1oz Elderberry Syrup w/ Essential Oils

  • 2oz coconut cream (Califia Farms BetterHalf Vanilla is my favorite)

Pour it all into an 8oz glass, stir, and enjoy!

ESSENTIAL WINTER COLLECTION
cover_essential_winter_collection_website.png

WINTER.

Cold crisp air, cozying up fireside, twinkle lights everywhere and holiday tunes filling the air! This time of year brings with it all the nostalgic, comforting smells. I’ve put together a quick list of Winter oils to add to your collection. These are so good in the diffuser and almost any combo will be amazing. They also build seamlessly upon the oils we used so much during the Fall and will fill your home with festive, delicious smells!

WINTER TIPS:

YOUR FAVORITE SCARF MAKES A LOVELY DIFFUSER FOR ANY OF THESE OILS OR COMBINATIONS.

ADD A FEW DROPS OF PINE OR LEMON ESSENTIAL OIL TO YOUR TREE WATER TO KEEP IT FRESH LONGER.

USE A DROP OR TWO OF THE VITALITY OILS IN PLACE OF DRIED HERBS OR SPICES IN YOUR FAVORITE RECIPES (PIES, SOUPS, MULLED CIDER, ETC.). THE DIFFERENCE IN FLAVOR IS DRASTIC!

MOST OF THESE OILS ARE VERY SUPPORTIVE OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM AND CAN BE SUPPORTIVE OF STAYING ABOVE THE WELLNESS LINE THIS SEASON.

ESSENTIAL WINTER COLLECTIONS

  • Thieves
  • Christmas Spirit
  • Cinnamon Bark
  • Nutmeg
  • Pine
  • Northern Lights Black Spruce
  • Idaho Blue Spruce
  • Idaho Balsam Fir
  • Believe
  • Rosemary
  • Peppermint
  • Stress Away
  • Frankincense

ESSENTIAL WINTER COLLECTION ADD-ONS*

  • Cassia (a sweeter, milder cinnamon sent only found in the Oils of Ancient Scripture Collection)
  • Exodus ii (Similar to Thieves, but with a twist!)
  • Treasure of the Season
  • The Gift
  • Three WIsemen
  • Cypress (another fun tree scent to throw in the mix!)
  • Wintergreen (Try subbing this for Peppermint in some blends for more variety)

Consider adding your favorite floral or citrus oils to the spicy and evergreen aromas of winter for an unexpected and beautiful smell.

*These smell particularly amazing alongside the “fall” oils in the diffuser and will add complexity to the blends you create.

WINTER DIFFUSER BLENDS

These blends are great for the diffuser, but are also great for making linen sprays, room sprays, or even roll-on scents.

There are endless combos and smells you can come up with using these oils. Try mixing them with oils you already have in your collection, too! If a blend calls for a tree scent or cinnamony oil you don't have, sub for one that you do. Play around and have fun! There is NO wrong combo!

Homemade Peppermint Marshmallows
homemade peppermint marshmallows.png

Marshmallows – a quintessential cold-weather treat that comes standard with some a long list of terrible ingredients. Not exactly what I’d like to top a cup of organic homemade cacao with, that’s for sure. These homemade marshmallows have only a handful of simple, whole-food ingredients and are flavored with Young Living peppermint essential oil.

These were so much fun to make and enjoy with the kids. I hope you all enjoy them as much as we have!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup of water
  • 3 TBSP GRASSFED GELATIN (a wonderful source of protein with a reputation for serious gut-healing)
  • 1 cup RAW HONEY
  • 1 TSP homemade vanilla extract (recipe below)
  • 5-10 drops peppermint essential oil (supports digestion, boosts energy and focus, and relaxes sore muscles)
  • a pinch of SEA SALT (full of essential trace minerals)
  • (optional) 1/8 cup each of powdered cane sugar & arrowroot powder mixed to give powdery finish
  • (optional) natural RED FOOD COLORING

HOW TO MAKE YOUR MARSHMALLOWS

  1. Line a baking dish (8×8) with parchment paper and grease very lightly with coconut oil.
  2. Stir 3 TBSP grassfed gelatin into 1/2 cup water inside a mixing bowl and allow to bloom as you continue onto step 3.
  3. Over med-high heat, boil 1 cup raw honey, 1/2 cup water and pinch of salt until it reaches a temperature of 240 degrees. Remove from heat.
  4. Slowly pour honey mixture into the mixing bowl with the bloomed gelatin and stir slowly to incorporate. Increase speed to high and mix until it just becomes thick and fluffy (but not too thick).
  5. Add 1 TSP vanilla extract, 5-10 drops of peppermint essential oil, and natural food coloring (if using). For a mild peppermint flavor, use 5 drops, for a breathmint strength flavor, add a full 10 drops. I added a full 10 drops and one marshmallow gave a lovely sweet, minty flavor to hot cacao. This may be a little strong for some though.
  6. Spread mixture into greased pan and allow to sit in fridge for at least 4 hours.
  7. Remove from pan, cut into 1×1 inch squares and coat with the 1/4 powdered cane sugar/arrowroot powder to finish, if desired. (To make my powdered sugar, I placed 1/8th of a cup of raw sugar into my Vitamix and turned it on high until it became powder.) You will have leftover dusting powder, which can be reserved for the next time you make marshmallows.
  8. Top your hot cocao with one or two and CHEERS! Enjoy!

*You could add in a few capsules of probiotics when you add the vanilla extract to increase the gut-supporting properties of these delicious treats. Young Living’s Life5 probiotic is an excellent choice!

Please store your marshmallows in the refrigerator and use within 5-7 days to ensure freshness. They also freeze wonderfully if you don’t think you’ll use them all right away!

Pear Berry Crisp
pearberry_crisp_website.png

There is nothing quite like bringing back our favorite recipes as the seasons change. The familiar smells and nostalgia are intoxicating. This is a recipe we make every fall and winter. It's quick and easy and delicious! We like to eat it for breakfast with some eggs and bacon or some green juice, but it makes a delicious dessert as well.

Truth be told, one of my favorite parts about this recipe is that it is incredibly forgiving and versatile! My throw in this and that and some of that style of cooking shines here. Below, you'll find a rough estimate of how much of each ingredient I use, but feel free to use your hands as measuring cups and taste as a guide. Hey, go crazy and add your own ingredients!

Shower Spritz-Ahhh
shower_spritz_ahhh_graphic.png

Sometimes we just need to take a big, deep, revitalizing breath. A breath of fresh air, if you will.

If you've ever been to the spa, you've likely used a eucalyptus spray in the shower. Now you can experience that at home!

Supporting your respiratory system has never been so relaxing!

SHOWER SPRITZ-AHHH

YOU WILL NEED

  • 2oz glass spray bottle
  • 5ml of Eucalyptus Radiata essential oil (or oil of your choice)
  • 1/8 tsp Sea Salt (to help disperse the oil in the water)
  • Distilled Water

HOW TO MAKE

This is where it gets insanely easy. Just pour 5ml of Eucalyptus Radiata, which is roughly 75-80 drops into the glass spray bottle, add the sea salt and fill with distilled water.

HOW TO USE

Shake, shake, shake and spritz a few times *down* into the shower stream while taking relaxing, deep breaths. Your entire shower will fill with it's aroma and you will be in heaven.

A word of caution: ONLY spray this down into the shower as it's *very* potent and could irritate your eyes if sprayed up or toward yourself.

Like any good DIY, this is super versatile. Experiment with oils and see what your faves are!

A few others you might try:

  • Lemongrass
  • Rosemary
  • Eucalyptus Blue
  • Eucalyptus Globulus
  • Lavender
  • Stress Away

Elderberry Syrup with essential oils
Elderberry Syrup w/ Essential Oils

Elderberry syrup is one of those must-have tricks in your wellness arsenal! If you've ever bought some, you know that it’s crazy expensive to buy ($15 for anywhere from 4-8 oz) and even then it’s hard to be sure the ingredients are the best. Luckily, it is far less expensive to make on your own and so easy! If you can make tea, you can make this! Normally elderberry syrup is made with a combo of dried and fresh spices, but this particular recipe is potent and powerful through its use of Young Living essential oils. It is sure to support the immune system and more easily stay above the wellness line! It is also extremely tasty – dangerously so, in fact.

So, what’s the deal with elderberries? I’m so glad you asked. Elderberries are rich in vitamins A, B and C and are a traditional cold and flu remedy used for hundreds of years. They are known to have high antioxidant activity and the bioflavonoids and other proteins in the juice of the berry destroy the ability of a cold or flu virus to infect a cell. Add that to all the amazing properties and benefits of essential oils and you have a yummy and amazing recipe on your hands!

WHAT YOU NEED:

OPTIONAL ADD-INS & VARIATIONS

HOW TO MAKE YOUR ESSENTIAL ELDERBERRY SYRUP:

  1. Add one cup of elderberries to 4 cups of boiling water. (Also add loose leaf tea, fresh ginger, and whole cloves if using them.)
  2. Allow to simmer on the stove for 45 minutes or until the liquid has been reduced by about half.
  3. Remove water from the stove and cool until it is just warm enough to melt the honey. The less heat the better to preserve all the properties of the honey and essential oils.
  4. Strain through a fine mesh strainer then stir in the honey (and the maple syrup, if using it).
  5. Add your vitality essential oils.
  6. Pour into a pretty glass container and enjoy!!!

This should be stored in the refrigerator to keep fresh. I’ve had batches last many months with no signs of going bad.  Using 1 tsp per day for adults and 1/2 tsp per day for children will be beneficial for keeping your immune system boosted. If you feel like you need more support, take it often throughout the day until you feel stronger. This can be tasty to top pancakes or waffles or even add to teas as a way to sweeten!

HOW TO USE ELDERBERRY SYRUP

  • Use to sweeten hot cereal
  • Pour on top of french toast, pancakes, or waffles
  • Stir a spoonful into your tea
  • Add a little to your NingXia Red shot
  • Make a delicious NingXia & Elderberry Cremosa
  • Take a spoonful straight

Let’s take a look at some of the benefits of the essential oils used in this recipe and what they can do for you! Most of these are the essential oil versions of the spices called for in traditional elderberry syrup recipes. Knowing that 1 drop of peppermint oil is equivalent to 26 cups of peppermint tea in potency, it’s easy to see why using oils is a no-brainer!

  • Thieves Vitality – This is a seriously amazing blend of clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus radiata and rosemary. It was created based on a legend about a group of 15th century thieves who rubbed oils on themselves to avoid contracting the plague while they robbed the bodies of the dead and dying. I’m just going out on a limb here and saying, this is powerful.
  • Nutmeg Vitality – Besides tasting and smelling festive, this oil maintains optimal digestive function, support's the body's natural inflammation, supports joint health and promotes cardiovascular health.
  • Clove Vitality – This is one of the main single oils in the Thieves blend, but has so much to offer that adding a little more just seems like more of a really good thing. It’s said that the people on the island of Ternate were free from epidemics until the 16th century, when Dutch conquerors destroyed the clove trees on the island. Many of the islanders died  from the epidemics that followed. It is a powerful immune support and has been used in dentistry for years.
  • Cinnamon Bark Vitality – Another oil already found in the Thieves blend, cinnamon bark is a powerful immune support.
  • Frankincense Vitality – One of the gifts given to Jesus by the Three Wise Men, frankincense has been used for centuries! It is known to support the immune system and relax the body.
  • Copaiba Vitality - A magnifier of the other oils it is used with and supporter of the body's natural response to inflammation, this one is extremely high in beta-caryophyllene. Google that! CBD oil contains about 30% beta-caryophyllene, while copaiba contains 40-70%! Powerful.
  • Orange Vitality - Contains the naturally occurring constituent d-limonene (Google that!), it's an important ingredient in NingXia Red and ImmuPro that supports cellular health.

Keep in mind that there are so many essential oils you could choose from, so feel free to pick and choose which oils you use and how much of each you put in. This recipe can serve as a guide for you to make it just the way you like it. Too spicy? Add more honey or purified water and elderberry. Too thin? Add more honey. Not enough flavor? Add more oils! It’s impossible to mess it up. Just tweak it as needed to suit your taste.

10 Easy Ways to Maintain Wellness
10_easy_ways_to_maintain_wellness_website.png

Apparently, we're coming up on cold & flu season! Only, here is a crazy fact: Flu season does not exist!

"Flu season" is actually just an inability to *adapt* as a result of less sunshine & water combined with too much sugar and stress.

No matter what the time of year, here are my TOP 10 TIPS TO STAY ABOVE THE WELLNESS LINE.

1. USE YOUR THIEVES EVERY SINGLE DAY. It’s a powerful way to support your immune system so your body can fight the good fight and win. This could mean you apply it to your feet (making a pre-diluted roll-on makes this super easy to swipe on yourself and the kiddos). This could also mean that you take a drop under your tongue (be warned, it is spicy), MAKE IT INTO TEA or even diffuse it in the air.

2. TAKE YOUR SHOT OF NINGXIA RED EVERY DAY. NINGXIA is loaded with antioxidants, which work hard to remove free radicals from the body. Free radicals damage immune cells, so you can see how it would be important to get rid of them! NingXia Red also helps support healthy blood sugar balance, our circulatory system and cognitive health, so it’s easy to see why saying “cheers” and taking a shot (or two) of NingXia each day is a really good step in the direction of wellness!

3. TAKE A PROBIOTIC. Young Living has a really great probiotic called Life9 that I take every single day. The vast majority of our immune system resides in our gut. Our gut depends on being colonized by good, life supporting bacteria. “Probiotic” literally means “for life.” So, take a Life9 probiotic for life!

4. TAKE SOME ELDERBERRY SYRUP EVERY DAY. It’s easy to make and especially since our recipe uses essential oils instead of dried herbs, a very delicious way to boost your immune system. It can be taken by the spoonful, added to smoothies, poured over pancakes & waffles or stirred into tea. You really can’t go wrong!

5. EAT CLEAN. Eating a nutrient rich, nourishing diet is so important. We can support the systems of our body with essential oil, but we have to give it what it needs to remain healthy. I like to use Slique Essence and Ocotea Vitality as a supplement in water or alone to help curb cravings so I stay on the right track! Pure Protein Complete is another great way to be sure you’re getting all the good stuff your body needs! It contains 22 grams of Young Living’s Complete Amino Profile Blend and includes a vegetarian enzyme complex that supports proper digestion and metabolism. As a bonus, it tastes AMAZING!

6. DRINK WATER. Drinking plenty of water has a huge affect on our health. Add citrus citrus oils to your water to make it delicious and something you look forward to drinking! This also helps support your body's ability to detox, making it that much easier for you to fight off any bugs.

7. GET SLEEP. Obviously, we all need rest. Often, this is easier said than done. Luckily, we have several ways to use oils to help get lots of sleep! Using relaxing oils at bedtime will really help with this. These can be used on your chest, forehead, brainstem and feet, focusing on the big toe as that is the VitaFlex point for the brain. They can also be used in the diffuser, mixed into epsom salt in a bath, added to warm water to make tea or even spritzed on the bedding as a linen spray. Some suggestions for relaxing oils are lavender, cedarwood, roman chamomile, valerian, Tranquil, RutaVala, Stress Away, Peace & Calming, Dream Catcher and Surrender. Young Living also makes a wonderful supplement to encourage a restful night of sleep called Sleep Essence. It is glorious!

8. MOVE YOUR BODY. Staying still for long periods of time can put you at the same risk for heart disease as someone who smokes. Moving feels good because it’s good for you! Do what your body is intended to do and get some exercise. Before getting active, I like to apply some Breathe Again, which supports a healthy respiratory system, or peppermint, which may improve performance. Taking a NingXia Nitro prior to working out can also give a great energy boost! When I’m done, I use Cool Azul Sports Gel and/or Cool Azul essential oil blend on my muscles. The cooling sensation it provides feels so nice!

9. RELAX. Stress is killer and it can effect your body, thoughts, and feelings. It comes in many forms and it’s different for all of us. Take some time to see what is causing you the most stress and what you can do to reduce or eliminate it. For me, excess stuff was cluttering up my mind and paralyzing me. I harnessed the power of the blends Motivation and Surrender and did a serious clean-out of my home. I could feel my stress levels drop with every load I dropped off at Goodwill. Also, be sure you take some time to just “be.” Take a bath, meditate, do a bit of yoga, write in a journal, whatever makes you feel content! Epsom salt baths are one of my favorite ways to relax. I add a few cups of epsom salt to the bottom of my empty tub and stir 4-5 drops of essential oil in it before running the water. My favorites are Stress Away, lavender and Peace and Calming.

10. DITCH THE TOXINS. We all want a clean home, but did you know that nearly all the products on the market meant to “clean” our home are FULL of toxins that are left behind on all the surfaces you spray it on. It’s also expensive and cumbersome to buy and store different cleaners for each cleaning job. Thieves Household Cleaner is an amazing plant-based concentrate that will save you TONS of money and actually CLEAN every surface of your home. You could also use Thieves Laundry Soap so you aren’t walking around with the chemical version of a “field of flowers” rubbing against your skin and being inhaled into your lungs. Fragrance is the new second hand smoke. Awful stuff! Thieves Laundry Soap works incredibly well and leaves clothes and linens smelling and looking fresh and clean! Fewer toxins means less yuck to weigh our body down and tax our system. That means our body is left to function as it was meant to and that is exactly what we’re going for here!

Creamy Mud Tea
CREAMY MUD TEA.png

Once upon a time, I used to wake up and enjoy a cup (or 3) of hot, delicious coffee. Like most adults, coffee was my nectar. Then I began to notice that stress and anxiety were becoming an issue. My stomach also didn’t seem to like it. I felt unnaturally amped up and jittery only to crash hard in the afternoon and feel sluggish and awful. Fast-forward another six months to when I was *still* drinking coffee despite feeling bad. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, which is an autoimmune thyroid disease and decided to take full control of my health. I went on a clean eating, gluten free diet and also cut out coffee. After the initial withdrawals (coffee is seriously addictive) I began to feel SO much better! I woke up feeling refreshed and had more sustained energy through the day. BUT, I *really* missed the ritual of cozying up with that warm cup of goodness in the morning!

Enter this drink, which we call mud tea. Coffee WHAT? Coffee has nothing on this. This drink is loaded with all sorts of goodness and tastes like none other! Keep reading and we’ll go over some benefits of each ingredient!

Now, as a disclaimer, I will let you know that I do not measure this out. These amounts are estimates and should be adjusted based on your taste. I actually prefer mine slightly thicker and more buttery than this recipe and so I use a wee bit more cacao and ghee than I called for here. Try it out, experiment with amounts and find your happy place.

You will need:

Add all ingredients to your favorite mug, give it a good stir and enjoy!

*MAKE AHEAD TIP: Make a ready-to-go Mud Tea mix with all of the dry ingredients! I used MAPLE SUGAR (dried maple syrup) for the sweetener in the mix so I only have to add my ghee and creamer to it. I also stuck a couple of vanilla beans in the jar with the mix to infuse a bit of vanilla flavor!

So which oil do you choose? Here’s a round-up of our favorites!

  • Peppermint Vitality – Peppermint is invigorating, known for encouraging mental clarity. It also is very supportive of a healthy respiratory system.
  • Thieves Vitality – Supportive of a healthy immune system. This is a great way to get your daily dose of Thieves!
  • Orange Vitality – On it’s own or along with any of these other oils, orange tastes SO good! It is also full of limonene. Google it!
  • Copaiba Vitality– Promotes overall wellness and includes the naturally occurring constituents beta-caryophyllene and alpha-humulene.

What’s so great about mud tea anyway?

  • Cacao – Full of flavonoids and may lower your risk of serious disease. Also higher levels of antioxidants than black or green tea, and red wine. Also highly beneficial in promoting a healthy cardiovascular system. Not to mention that it contains magnesium, and other essential minerals such as calcium, sulfur, zinc, iron, copper, potassium, and manganese , as well as vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B9, C, and E. Pass the cacao?
  • Maca – Wonderfully supportive of balanced hormones, which could prove helpful for fertility, menopausal symptoms and PMS. Also supports happy skin, overall mood and sexual function. Maca is rich in vitamin B, C, and E. It provides plenty of calcium, zinc, iron, magnesium, phosphorous and amino acids. Because of all this, it gives a nice energy boost that can even improve athletic performance!
  • Ghee – Ghee is essentially lactose free and casein free clarified butter, which means even those who are lactose intolerant can enjoy it’s deliciousness. It’s FULL of healthy fats and helps maintain healthy metabolism and weight. Seriously, the energy from these medium chain fatty acids can be used to burn other fats in the system and lose weight. It is supportive of a healthy immune and digestive system… and it tastes AMAZING! Truly.
  • Maple Syrup – Antioxidant rich with a lower glycemic index than most other sweeteners. Also provides zinc and manganese which support a healthy immune system, maintain a good metabolism and healthy blood sugar regulation!
  • Gelatin (collagen hydrolysate) – Loaded with protein and easily digested, gelatin is supportive of gut and joint health. Contains millions of essential amino acids and peptides which regulate cell function. Feeling of alertness, improved concentration, balanced mood, improved energy and increased sense of well-being have been reported! Because collagen hydrolysate dissolves in cold water, as well as hot, and will not congeal like regular gelatin, you can use this high-protein powder in endless ways!
  • Sea Salt – Includes vital minerals like sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, bromide, chloride, iron, copper, and zinc among other beneficial elements. The benefits for your well-being are seemingly endless. Plus, it adds rich flavor!

Wake up. Enjoy your warm cup of mud tea and know that you’re starting your day off to a good start!
