The Droppery Does Whole30
whole_30_group_header.png

We've all heard the quote "Let thy food by thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food." We all know that what we eat dictates how we feel and look. Life is so busy, though. We are going non-stop and taking care of others to our own deficit.

There have been a couple of times in my life that I've seen a HUGE shift in my overall wellbeing.

One was when I went from eating a standard American diet, to eating Paleo just after I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and was desperate to feel better! I changed my diet, added in oils, and felt drastically better within a month.

The second was last October during my first Whole30! By the end, I had more energy than I'd had in years, my skin was glowing, my hair was shinier, my waist had shrunk, I'd lost 14 pounds, and I was sleeping like a baby. I am HOOKED and do a round every 3 months now.

Without fail, eating with intention will transform your life! It doesn't have to be complicated. Simple is key. To me, our food choices go hand-in-hand with using essential oils and clearing toxins out of our lives. It's a lifestyle choice that is always worth the effort.

We are not about perfection - just about learning to make better choices with our food and encouraging each other to push past our comfort zones within our relationship with food.

This is for EVERYONE and I would love to have you join us! Invite your friends and come hang out! You do *not* have to be a member of The Droppery. The Droppery Does Whole30 runs every January, April, July, and October. Jump in for one of them or all of them!

You are worth feeling your best. You are strong enough to power through and do this. You are not alone in this, friend. Choose wellness and radical self-care.

Let me be real with you about this. It isn't easy. It is mentally challenging, physically challenging, and ultimately transformative. It's totally worth the challenges! There is a basic Whole30 Timeline that breaks down the different stages most people experience during their Whole30.

I thought it would be fun to make a diffuser recipe inspired by each stage to help get us through! So, don't mind the crazy names. If you click over to the Whole30 Timeline, they'll make a LOT more sense! Cheers to striving to feel your absolute best!

Essential Oils & Frequency
essential_oil_frequency.jpg

Okay, friends. Let’s up the FREQUENCY of our discussions on FREQUENCY around here. No, it’s not woo-woo! It’s physics and it's game-changing info to understand. I know it’s a word that can cause eyes to glaze over, but we’re gonna change that cause it’s SUPER awesome!

Everything is energy and that is all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you can not help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philsophy. This is physics.
— Albert Einstein

Albert knows y'all. He knows. So, everything has a frequency and that includes essential oils. Understanding what that means will help us truly grasp the power that these drops contain.

WHAT IS FREQUENCY? Frequency is the measurable rate of electrical energy flow that is constant between two points. Again, everything has frequency.

WHAT DOES THE FREQUENCY MEAN? The state of our health and well-being is directly affected by the frequency of our body, and our frequency is affected by the frequency of the things we come in contact with.

Essential oil frequencies have a wide range from 46 MHz up to 580 MHz. Healthy people have a smaller range and our bodies function well between 62-72MHz. Disease begins at 58 MHz. Each organ and part of our body operates at it’s own frequency and each responds to other frequencies in their own way. For example, your heart resonates at a different frequency than your skin or your bones. Using a wide array of essential oils with varying frequencies can help support ALL the systems of your body.

HEALTHY HUMAN ORGAN FREQUENCIES

  • 71-90 MHz | Brain
  • 62-68 MHz | Thyroid and Parathyroid
  • 65-68 MHz | Thymus Gland
  • 67-70 MHz | Heart
  • 58-65 MHz | Lungs
  • 55-60 MHz | Liver
  • 58-65 MHz | Stomach
  • 60-80 MHz | Pancreas
  • 50-63 MHz | Colon

FREQUENCIES OF PEOPLE AND THINGS

  • 47-580 MHz | Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils
  • 62-72 MHz | Healthy human body
  • 58 MHz |Human body with cold symptoms
  • 57 MHz | Human body with flu symptoms
  • 42 MHz | Human body with cancer
  • 25 MHz | Human body beginning to die
  • 20-27 MHz | Fresh Herbs
  • 12-22 MHz | Dry herbs
  • 10-15 MHz | Fresh produce
  • 0 MHz | Processed or canned foods

Because our vulnerability to disease increases as our frequency decreases, understanding some different factors that can affect our frequency is important.

RAISES FREQUENCY

  • Focusing on uplifting news or positivity
  • Giving or Receiving prayer or good thoughts
  • Rest
  • Good nutrition and plenty of water
  • Fresh air
  • Using high-frequency essential oils

LOWERS FREQUENCY

  • Stress or focus on negativity or fears
  • Drinking coffee
  • An acidic diet
  • Lack of sleep
  • Unhealthy food choices (processed foods, sugar, etc)
  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Feeling or being exposed to negative emotions, stress, anxiety

These are just some examples. The choices we make every day directly impact our frequency. Our body systems each respond to different frequencies. By using high quality essential oils with varying frequencies, and making wise lifestyle choices, we can affect our body’s frequencies so that it can be equipped to handle the day-to-day as well as seasons of additional immune stressors.

I’ll leave you with a list of some of our favorite essential oils and their frequencies. Grab some and use them! Diffuse, apply and enjoy.

  • 580 MHz Idaho Blue Spruce
  • 320 MHz Rose
  • 181 MHz Helichrysum
  • 150 MHz Thieves
  • 147 MHz Frankincense
  • 124 MHz Ravintsara
  • 118 MHz Lavender
  • 112 MHz PanAway
  • 105 MHz Myrrh
  • 102 MHz Acceptance
  • 98 MHz Sandalwood
  • 78 MHz Peppermint

The Skinny on Citrus Oils
The_Skinny_On_Citrus_Oils.jpg

Citrus fruits. They taste as amazing as they look and they smell even better! Just removing the peel on a juicy lemon or orange will leave the entire room smelling fresh and happy! But did you know that there is value in that rind that you toss? Citrus essential oils harness the goodness in the rind for you to enjoy drop by drop. Not only can they do amazing things for your body, they can also help cheer you up! Citrus fragrances induce relaxation and invoke feelings of happiness.

Interestingly, citrus oils are not technically essential oils at all. They are expressed oils – pressed from the rind of the fruit and rich in terpene alcohols. So, how do you choose which one to use? What are they used for, besides smelling and tasting amazing? We’ll go over that, as well as some basic usage info here, so you know exactly which citrus oil you want to use and why.

LEMON – Cold pressed from the rind, lemon has a strong, purifying citrus scent. It contains 68% D-Limonene, which provides antioxidant support! Both energizing and uplifting, it is a great choice for helping improve the mood. CITRUS OIL USAGE

CITRUS OIL PRECAUTIONS – Citrus oils are Photosensitizing. This means that their natural constituents (particularly furanocoumarins) react when they are exposed to the sun’s rays. This can cause blistering, redness and burning of the skin. Luckily, it’s easy to avoid this. Simply apply citrus oils on skin that will *not* be exposed to direct sunlight, or apply at night to allow at least 12 hours before sun exposure! Citrus oils are different than regular essential oils, in that they are not merely the essence of the plant, but contain proteins from the plant. If you have a citrus allergy, you will also likely be allergic to the expeller-pressed citrus oils and any citrus oils should be used with caution.

CREATING BLENDS WITH CITRUS OILS – Citrus oils are a favorite for diffusing and using in linen sprays because of their uplifting and purifying properties. A good blend contains top notes, middle notes and base notes. Your citrus oils are your top notes, so try pairing them with oils from the other two categories for a nice, full-bodied aroma-therapeutic experience. Some middle notes are cardamom, cypress, geranium, lavender, nutmeg and rosemary. Some low notes are cinnamon, clove, frankincense, ginger, jasmine, patchouli, sandalwood, valerian, vetiver and ylang ylang.

SLOW AND STEADY – Lemon in a glass of water is a great starting point for using citrus oils. Be sure to start off slowly using any of the citrus oils internally. They are known for supporting detoxification within the body and detoxing quickly can cause some uncomfortable side effects, such as itching or redness of the skin, as well as head or body aches. Just take it slow, use one drop a day, then slowly increase to using more than that. This will give your body time to slowly start detoxing without all the side effects.

Vanilla Spice No-Crappuccino
vanilla_spice_no_crappuccino.jpg

It’s getting warmer and warmer outside and for many people this means running to the nearest Starbucks and indulging in a high-calorie frappuccino full of ingredients that are less-than-healthy. I love to wake up and enjoy Mud Tea every morning, but I live in Texas and a hot drink to kick off a hot day doesn’t quite cut it for me. So, I present this Mud Tea inspired COLD drink that will sustain your energy in a delicious way with only good ingredients. You’ll love it. No crappuccino.

I know that it’s a tall (make that Venti) order to ask you to give up your beloved frappuccino, but trust me when I say that you are doing yourself NO favors gulping one of those down. It’s a whipped heart-attack with crazy amounts of sugar and expensive add-ons to make it even worse for you! Plus, the more expensive you make it, the worse it is for you! It’s literally the most expensive drink on the menu and if you are still buying fraps, it may be time to rethink that and call it what it is. Crap.

vanilla_spice_no_crappuccino_3.jpg

So, let’s get down to why this NO CRAPpuccino is the answer.  It’s full of protein, vitamins, minerals, healthy fats and good taste. Also, your cup of it won’t cost you your health, waistline and savings. The building block of this delicious get-up-and-go drink is Young Living’s Vanilla Spice Pure Protein Complete, which is amazing! It smells like a cinnamon roll and tastes similarly divine. Let’s delve into the recipe, then read on below to find out why we chose the ingredients we did and what they’re going to do for you!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

optional add-ons we highly recommend:

HOW TO MAKE IT

  1. Put your Vanilla Spice Pure Protein Complete, salt, and any recommended add-ons (except the essential oils & coconut flakes) into the blender and cover with the hot water, tea, or espresso. Let it run until it’s mixed up nicely.
  2. Add the coconut creamer, raw maple syrup or honey, vanilla extract, and ice and blend until it’s thick and frothy.
  3. Adjust. Taste and adjust amounts to your liking! I cook like I’m sprinkling fairy dust and do not measure a thing. Dump things in and experiment.
  4. Pour into your glass, add essential oils, garnish with coconut flakes and enjoy!

notes: I use a VitaMix, which is a powerful beast of a blender. I cannot guarantee the perfect frappuccinno texture in other blenders. Also, be sure you do NOT add essential oils to your blender unless it is made of glass. Oils and plastic do not mix. If your blender is plastic, add the oils to your glass and stir to incorporate.

10 Safety Tips for Using Essential Oils
10_safety_tips.jpg

YOUNG LIVING'S OILS ARE SO PURE AND POTENT, THAT WE MUST RESPECT THE DROPS LIKE THE LITTLE POWERHOUSES THAT THEY ARE. Don't worry, though! It's mostly common sense and becomes more and more intuitive as you begin to use your oils every day.

Here are a few safety suggestions that should get you off to a good start! Pay extra attention to #10!

1. Store them in a cool, dark place with lids secure to maintain their properties.

2. Keep a carrier oil, like YL's V6 oil complex or coconut oil, on hand to dilute. If an oil is too strong on your skin, just apply some carrier oil and wipe off if necessary.

3. Always use glass containers with your oils, especially when drinking, since plastics contain chemicals that the oils will break down.

4. Only use YL's Vitality line internally. These are labeled just for internal use to make it easy!

5. For those with sensitive skin, it may be best to test a small area and wait 30 minutes before applying more.

6. Keep oils away from eyes and never put them directly in your ears. Should oils irritate or get near the eyes, use a carrier oil (like YL's V6 oil complex or coconut oil) to remove the oil and lessen discomfort. NEVER use water.

7. Citrus oils are photosensitive and may cause a rash or darkening of skin if applied before direct sun exposure. As a general rule, wait 12 hours or after applying a citrus oil before going in the sun.

8. Those with epilepsy or high blood pressure should use caution when using high-ketone oils like basil, rosemary, sage or tansy.

9. The bottom of the feet is a very safe place to apply your oils and is super efficient for getting the oils into your system.

10. RELAX! You can't really "mess up" using your oils. Experiment, see what you like and give yourself lots of opportunity to see just how incredible and versatile these oils really are!

Why We Hoard Certain Oils
why_we_hoard_certain_oils.png

Some oils were meant to be hoarded. Seriously! Let me tell you why.

YL oils are the BEST and are 100% a product of the earth, with it's changing climate and different seasons. Sometimes there is an unfavorable growing season. This could mean there just isn't enough of the plant to even harvest, or that the quality of the oil is not up to our standards.

YL will *not* sacrifice standards. They would rather lose money than sell us an oil that is less-than the best. So, sometimes that means we have a limited stock and only one 5ml bottle per account can be purchased each month. Other times, there is only enough of a single to create the blends and the single remains out of stock. There are times when both the single and the blends it is a part of go out of stock for extended periods of time.

This is a good thing! Sustainability is a priority and that speaks volumes. Quality is a priority and that speaks volumes.

An easy way to know if an oil is worth hoarding is if it has a limit on it. Any oil with a limit to how many you can buy per account each month is worth hoarding. Any oil that you use often or would need, without substitutes, in certain situations is worth hoarding. Any oil you use daily is worth hoarding. Oils like SleepyIze, Peace & Calming, Valor, Deep Relief, RutaVala, Goldenrod, Frankincense, Helichrysum, and Sandalwood come to mind!

There is nothing as satisfying as a stockpile of your very favorite and most precious oils. You can never have too many.

Homemade Coconut Creamer
Homemade Coconut Creamer

A great base for any essential oil tea is homemade coconut creamer. It’s very easy to make and so much cheaper than store bought coconut milk. Also, it’s just coconut with water and none of the preservatives and thickeners. Simplicity is the name of the game!

The ratio of coconut to water makes a big difference in achieving a creamy consistency or having hard fat rising to the top when refrigerated.  After much experimentation, I found a ratio that works for me every time. Thick and creamy with zero separation! It takes a little patience, but there’s very little hands-on time involved. I promise the results will be worth the wait! **This recipe is a great way to give essential oils to kids. (See instructions at bottom)

Homemade Coconut Creamer

YOU WILL NEED:

  • 4 cups COCONUT FLAKES – I buy coconut flakes from Tropical Traditions because of their quality and care for the environment. They are reasonably priced and offer free shipping one Monday a month.
  • 6 cups hot filtered water – the amount used will vary slightly depending on your coconut flakes so you may not use all of it.
  • a high-speed blender – I recommend the VitaMix
  • a nut/rice milk bag – THIS is my favorite bag. It is very sturdy and durable. You can also substitute the bag with layers of cheese cloth.
Homemade Coconut Creamer

HOW TO MAKE IT:

  1. Place coconut flakes into blender pitcher.  I shake the pitcher a little so flakes are more compact.
  2. Pour hot or steaming water over flakes up to the  5-1/2 cup measurement line.  Note: you are not adding 5 1/2 cups of water, just filling the blender to that point.
  3. Blend for about two minutes on high then let sit for 30 minutes to an hour minimum. Letting it sit longer won’t hurt. Blend again for two minutes then sit for 30 minutes to an hour before finishing it off by blending for two minutes one more time. I let the flakes soak for up to three hours. Two will work also but I have tried 1/2-1 hour and results are not as creamy.
  4. Place your nut bag into a bowl or 8-cup measuring cup and pour the pulp into bag. Squeeze the milk out of the bag into bowl or measuring cup. You may need to let it sit a short time to cool a little first as the blending heats it up.
  5. Refrigerate. Give it a quick shake or stir before using and enjoy! This will keep nicely for 5-6 days.

NOTE:  If the measurements are off by just a little, the blender may not be incorporating all of the mixture. If that happens, add water 1 tablespoon at a time to ensure it is mixing well.  I have not had to add more than 2  tablespoons.

Homemade Coconut Creamer

I use this as is but you can sweeten or flavor any way you like. This recipe can easily be made into coconut milk by adding more cold water prior to drinking. You can also just make coconut milk by using the ratio 1 part coconut flakes to 2-1/2 parts water, but you will end up with the fat floating to the top and hardening in the fridge and it will likely have to be blended smooth before drinking the first time.

Pro tip: Don’t throw away that pulp! Use a 1:1 ratio and pour water onto the pulp then go through the same soaking and blending process again. You’ll get a nice coconut milk out of it!

**This recipe is a great way to give essential oils to kids – big and little alike. Just drop a drop of essential oil into the bottom of a glass, cover with coconut cream and stir. Because it naturally has lots of good fats in it, the oils will be well diluted so as not to irritate their mouth or stomach. It will also keep away the oily burps. That’s a real thing!
